Summer 2025 Education Council Support Staff Candidates
Doug Mehus
Hi, I鈥檓 Doug Mehus, a library technician in the library on the Kelowna Campus at 91国产视频, and I鈥檓 looking for your support to re-join Education Council for a two-year term, from August 1, 2025-July 31, 2027, as one of two BCGEU Support Staff voting members on Education Council (鈥淓dCo鈥).
In this time of unprecedented changing financial circumstances and organizational change at the College, it is critically important that all Support Staff be represented by real support staff in order to ensure real accountability (i.e., not by exempt managers and college administrators). I look forward to continuing to serve alongside the other Support Staff elected representative, whose term is now split from this Support Staff seat and continues through July 31, 2026. On June 25, 2025, you will receive an e-mail from elections@okanagan.bc.ca with your ElectionBuddy voting credentials. Vivian Moretti
As an Education Advisor at the Kelowna campus, I assist students in navigating their academic paths, planning their programs, and accessing essential services for their success. In this role, I also play a vital part in focusing on our institution's broader goals related to student success, enrolment planning, and policy awareness. I collaborate regularly with advising professionals throughout British Columbia, exchanging best practices that promote continuous improvement in student services.
I hold a certification in the Fundamentals of Strategic Enrolment and am passionate about aligning academic planning with long-term student outcomes and institutional strategies. Additionally, I serve as a member-at-large with the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services (CACUSS) and currently participate on its Elections Committee for the Board of Directors. These roles enhance my understanding of inclusive governance, collaboration across the sector, and student-centered leadership. My background with organizations like Disney and Google has shaped my strengths in innovation and systems thinking skills that I bring into post-secondary work every day. As a member of the Education Council, I want to bring a collaborative, equity-informed lens to curriculum and policy decisions that uphold 91国产视频鈥檚 mission and values.

To submit your application:

- Download and complete three nomination forms
- Attach completed forms to the online application as part of step 3
- Submit an (form is open during the nomination period only, see election schedule above this section)

Eligibility Requirements
Faculty/Instructor
Faculty/Instructor member means any faculty member or vocational instructor employed by 91国产视频 who is a member of the 91国产视频 Faculty Association or BC Government and Service Employees鈥 Union (Vocational Instructors).
Any faculty member or vocational instructor shall be deemed eligible to stand for election if they in good standing with their representative group and have an employment contract or a reasonable expectation of a contract that covers the period of the term of office.
Support staff
Support staff member means any individual employed by 91国产视频 who is a member of BC Government and Service Employees鈥 Union Support Staff or covered by the Terms and Conditions for Administrators or Excluded Staff and is not in a position excluded under Appendix A.
Any support staff member shall be deemed eligible to stand for election if they in good standing with their representative group and have an employment contract or a reasonable expectation of a contract that covers the period of the term of office.
Student
Student means any person enrolled as a student at 91国产视频 in a program approved by Education Council.
Eligibility to stand for election and to hold office.
Be deemed to be in good standing by the Registrar. Any Student is eligible be nominated to be a Student elected member with the following exception: that a Student candidate may not be employed by the College as a Support Staff, Faculty or Educational Administrator except when the employment falls under one of the following: Letter of Understanding #1 - Student Employees, Letter of Understanding #2 鈥 Co-operative Education Students and Letter of Understanding #3 鈥 Research Projects as part of the Collective Agreement between 91国产视频 (Support Staff) and the B.C. Government and Service Employees鈥 Union (2014-2019 and as renegotiated). Be considered a Student on the day the election is held.
Appeal committee
- The Registrar/Associate Vice President who will chair the Committee and be non-voting;
- A student (President of the 91国产视频 Student Union or designate in odd years, the President of the Vernon Students鈥 Association 91国产视频 or designate in even years);
- A representative from the Faculty/Instructor representative groups (Chair of the BCGEU (Vocational Instructors) or designate in odd years and the Chair of the 91国产视频 Faculty Association or designate in even years); and
- A representative from Support Staff/Administrator representative groups (Chair of BCGEU Support Staff union or designate in odd years and the Chair of the Administrators Association or designate in even years).
Note: OCFA & BCGEU Vocational and OCSU & VSAOC agreed to serve on alternate years.
